Wauchope
Established in 1859, the Hastings Hotel is a renowned and well-loved Australian country pub located in Wauchope, in the mid-north coast region of NSW. Owner of Flower Hotels, Alistair Flower, has a long-standing relationship with Warrane and re-engaged Warrane to design a complete master plan for this iconic Australian hotel.
Alistair’s design brief to Warrane was to revitalise the hotel and make it a destination location by modernising and refining the existing premises without losing its classic Australian pub charm. From the cellar to the roof top, new designs were crafted. Warrane’s expert designers were excited to take on this project as they could foresee huge gains by rezoning and reconfiguring the existing floor spaces.
Warrane created designs for a free-flowing, open plan main bar with different zones to allow the staff and patrons to efficiently cruise to their destination. The bistro and kids play area has been refreshed to make it warmer and more family orientated.
The hotel currently has rooms available for short term bookings however they are dated with no adjoining bathrooms. The new designs have revamped the layout to make the best use of space and have designed over 10 rooms all of which include a bathroom. In order to access this accommodation, customers currently have to walk upstairs. Plans for a new elevator have also been included to make these rooms more accessible.

A new function room and celebration area have been planned which will include an adjoining terrace. The idea that people can come to eat, celebrate and stay has been encapsulated in these new designs.
The area is notorious for flooding so careful considerations have been taken when re-designing all aspects of the hotel.
Joe Stephen, Head of Design at Warrane said, “The vision to revitalise Wauchope with a new destination hotel will be a win for the community. It is an honour to work in the mid-north coast region again and represent Flower Hotels. Alistair has an impeccable eye for detail which makes it really enjoyable to collaborate and design together. The property improvements through these designs will be key to the hotel re-positioning itself and making it a true destination location.”
Plans for refurbishing the entire three floors of the hotel have been completed and approved by the client and are ready for council submission. Due to Warrane’s strong relationships with the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council team members, pre-approval meetings have already been had to ensure the plans are on target to avoid any potential delays.
Warrane, along with Flower Hotels Group, are excited to officially lodge the plans with council and begin works scheduled for later this year.
“A business that delivers visions.”
